What Will I Lose?
Does the physical SIM or eSIM matter when switching between iPhone and Android?
Yes. Moving a physical SIM card can be straightforward when both unlocked phones support the same card and carrier, but some iPhones are eSIM-only. eSIM transfer availability depends on the carrier, devices, and setup flow; it is not always a direct device-to-device transfer.
What to do
- Before switching, check whether the destination phone has a physical SIM tray and supports your carrier.
- Ask your carrier whether you should move a physical SIM, scan a new eSIM QR code, use its app, or request an eSIM transfer.
- Set up the cellular plan on the new phone while keeping the old phone available for verification.
- Test calls, SMS, and mobile data before erasing or trading in the old device.
Limits and compatibility notes
Check this before relying on the answer
Some US-market iPhone models are eSIM-only, and carrier/network-lock restrictions may apply. Do not remove or erase an active eSIM until your carrier confirms the new phone is working. Transferring phone data is separate from transferring cellular service.
